Profiles

Alison Samuels

Founder and Managing Director of ALLY®

Ali qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1983 and throughout her nursing career worked mainly within the realms of palliative care, which included 10 years at a hospice.

In 2005, Ali completed an Advance Diploma in Person–Centred Counselling. Ali worked as a community liaison nurse in a rehabilitation unit for people with complex neurological disorders and established a counselling service to help clients and their families.

Following her personal losses, Ali identified a gap in the support available for people experiencing pet loss. Ali consulted with Hilary O'Dair – a veterinary surgeon – who shared these ideas and became a director and veterinary advisor of ALLY®. Ali delivers the accredited training courses, and are continually developing the concept of ALLY® to provide a quality service and valuable resource for all who need it.

Hilary O'Dair

Hilary is a director of ALLY® and acts in the capacity as both a veterinary advisor within ALLY ®and a lecturer on the training course.

Hilary is a practising veterinary surgeon who has been qualified since 1982. Her main professional interest has been within small animal practice, with several years spent teaching at the University of Bristol Veterinary School.

The association with ALLY® began with a meeting of minds and common purpose between Ali Samuels and Hilary for the need to provide further support for owners that could extend beyond the consulting room. Ali's experience in human nursing and palliative care, combined with Hilary's veterinary experience, has provided a solid base upon which to build and develop the ALLY® concept.
